Eligibility to participate

Athletes will only be eligible to participate if they have
a) a license of their national triathlon federation or
b) a day license.

A day license can be acquired for Euro 30.00 during online registration or on site, when collecting the race documents.

Relay athletes do not need a (day) license.

AG =
The number after the abbreviation indicates the age group. The affiliation to an agegroup is belonging to the year of birth.

* Athletes must reach the age of 18 on the day of the event.

  • Individual
  • Relay
    Athletes must reach the age of 18 in the year of the event. Each relay team consists of a swimmer, a cyclist and a runner.
    According to the German sports regulations a relay team can also consist of two athletes whereat one athlete may not challenge two successive disciplines.
    All-female, all-male and mixed relay teams will be eligible to take part.
  • Trophy relay teams
    Special offer for company relay teams:
    There will be an editorial contribution about each company in the program booklet. In addition, there will be a separate award ceremony for the fastest Trophy relay teams at the finish-line on race day.
    Each Trophy relay team will also receive three bottles of champagne.

Methods of payment



If you register online, payment can only be made by bank transfer, direct debit or credit card (Visa or MasterCard).
An additional fee of Euro 20.00 will be charged for credit card payments. Bank transfer fees are always at the participant’s expense.

530 € per athlete with registration after February the 1st 2016
630 € per relay team with registration after February the 1st 2016

All prices include valid VAT as well as license and association fees.

Furthermore, the entry fee includes the following services:

Gifts for athletes, participation in carbo party, swim cap, doping test, accident ambulance, time measurement, food and drink during and after the race, bike service on the cycling course, traffic control, arbitration and competition court, security service, medical service, medal, finisher’s shirt, massage service, finisher’s certificate, online list of result, including team competition results.

Additional costs

Euro 30.00 for a day license (only for athletes without a valid license of a triathlon federation)

Euro 5.00 to borrow a transponder/chip. Athletes who bring their own transponder/Champion Chip, do not have to pay this fee.

If the borrowed transponder/chip is damaged or lost, a fee of Euro 50.00 will be charged. Detailed information regarding returning the transponders are included in the Race Regulations.

Pasta Party

For all athletes, participation in the carbo party is included in the entry fee. In addition, there is a limited number of tickets for accompanying persons. They are available at Euro 15.00 each at the Athletes’ Service Point and at the Information Desk in front of the Festival Hall.
Free entry for children under 12 years.

Payment method

With online registration entry fee can only be payed by transfer, debit or credit card (Visa or MasterCard).
On credit card payment a special fee of Euro 20.00 is raised. Costs for transfers always go to loads of the participant.

Further information regarding registration

Registration will only be accepted subject to receipt of payment within 14 days.

The organizer is entitled to reject a registration without giving any specific reasons (so-called freedom of contract).
If there is a legitimate reason (e. g. if athletes are suspected to disturb the race), the organizer reserves the right to subsequently withdraw the registration and to exclude the participant from taking part.

The organizer reserves the right to punish participants who are disqualified due to obvious fraud with a lifelong prohibition from participation in Challenge Regensburg.
Swapping start places is generally excluded for individual participants. In any case of contravention, a lifelong prohibition from participation in Challenge Regensburg will be imposed on both athletes.

As soon as the maximum number of registrations has been reached, no further registrations will be accepted.

Withdrawal

Until June 01, 2016, participants will have a right to withdraw their registration, in which case the entry fee will be reimbursed with deduction of a handling fee of Euro 80.00.
After June 01, 2016 entry fees will only be reimbursed by insurance. The insurance can optionally be taken at the registration for a fee of Euro 50,00.

Upon sending their withdrawal request, athletes are asked to indicate their IBAN and SWIFT Nos. for reimbursement of the entry fee.
Any bank fees are at the participant’s expense.

Distances/ Course details

3.8 km swim in Guggenberger Lake, start and finish at the south coast.

180 km bike course, consisting of two laps in the city and county of Regensburg, little traffic, most of the course is closed for oncoming traffic
Drafting is prohibited!

42.195 km run course on roads and paths in and around the city of Regensburg. Flat course, short ascending.

Time limit

Temporary time limit individual participants:

Swimming: 2 h. 10 min.
Swimming + cycling:  10 h. 00 min.
Swimming + cycling + running: 16 h. 00 min.

Temporary time limit relay teams:

Swimming: 2 h. 10 min.
Swimming + cycling:  10 h. 00 min.
Swimming + cycling + running: 15 Std. 40 Min.

Time measurement

Time-keeping will be effected using athletes‘ own transponders/chips, or a transponder/chip that can be borrowed from the organizer for a fee.
Borrowed chips are to be handled with care.

Sanitary facilities

Toilets are located at the transition zones, all aid stations and at the finish-line area.

Shower facilities are located at the finish-line area. There will be separate showers at the transition zones for relay swimmers and relay cyclists.

Food and drink

Aid stations are always located at the same distances and offer food and drink in the same order:
bike course: approx. every 20 km
run course: approx. every 2 km

Special needs

Athletes can bring their own food and drink and ask accompanying persons to pass them the food and drink at any aid station (bike and run course). Every athlete is asked to organize the provision of their own food and drink with the help of accompanying persons. The race organizer does not assume any responsibility for this private service.

Details regarding the aid stations and the food and drink that are offered there are included in the Race Regulations.

Start times and finish closing time

The race will be started in several start groups, beginning at 6.30 a.m. The last start groups are reserved for relay teams.
The exact allocation of start groups, including start times of the groups will be included in the Race Regulations.

Finish closing time

approx. 10.45 p.m. at the Domplatz in Regensburg

Collecting the start documents

Thursday, August 11 between 12 noon and 6 p.m.
Friday, August 12 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Saturday, August 13, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Attention: Please bring your identity card, your own chip, start pass of your national federation and your start number when collecting your start documents.

Check-in and check-out times for bikes and athletes‘ bags

Bike check-in

Saturday, August 13 at the swim start (Guggenberger Lake, Neutraubling) between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Athletes’ bags

The check-in and check-out times for the athletes’ bags and the times for bike check- out will be listed in detail in the Race Regulations.

Race meeting

It is obligatory for all athletes to attend the race meeting.
It will take place on Saturday, August 13, 2016
Time and place will be announced in the Race Regulations

Award ceremony

The CHALLENGEREGENSBURG award ceremony takes place on Monday, August 15, at the pavilion in Regensburg as of 11 a.m.

Prize money for individual participants

The following minimum amounts of prize money are guaranteed for the first eight female and male athletes:
1. place Euro 6.000,00
2. place Euro 3.900,00
3. place Euro 2.750,00
4. place Euro 1.900,00
5. place Euro 1.500,00
6. place Euro 1.200,00
7. place Euro 1.000,00
8. place Euro 750,00
in total Euro 38.000,00 Euro.

For foreign participants, withholding tax will be retained in accordance with German tax regulations.
Prize money will not be paid until the official results of the doping tests are received.

If German athletes are among the top ten finishers, prize money will only be paid if the respective athletes can provide a CHALLENGE pro license when they collect their start documents.

A succeed procedure is not planned.

Prize money for relay teams
Material prizes of the sponsors are given to the first three relay team by up on not uncertain height.

Non-cash prizes (individual and relay)

All individual participants who finish the competition within the time limit, will receive the official CHALLENGEREGENSBURG finisher’s shirt.
All relay participants whose relay team finishes the competition within the time limit of 13 hours and 45 minutes, will receive a special finisher’s shirt for relay teams.
The fastest age-group athletes will receive a present.

Special prizes

Athletes who reach the 1st to 3rd place of each age group (female and male), will receive trophies.
Teams or relay teams who reach the 1st to 3rd place (female and male), will receive special prizes.
Each finisher will receive an instant certificate at the finish-line area.
Athletes who reach a place among the top ten finishers are excluded from age-group classification.

Personal responsibility of participants for technical safety of equipment

According to DTU sports regulations, § 12.2, each participant is responsible for the technical safety of their equipment and is to make sure that the equipment is in line with the DTU sports regulations.

General conditions of participation

Upon registration, the participant accepts the following regulations, provisions and rules – in the same order – to be binding. Acceptance of and adherence to these regulations is a basic prerequisite for participating in the event.
